ROHTO Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture; President: Hidetoshi Segi) has joined the "Algae Activity® Project," an initiative that utilizes algae to improve the health of people and the planet.
In April 2025, our company announced a new business strategy, the "Phytoscience Concept," which aims to scientifically unravel the power of nature and return it to modern society. As the first step in this initiative, we grand opened "FARMO," Japan's first algae farm *1, in Kumejima Town, Okinawa Prefecture, and are promoting an integrated approach that combines algae research, production, processing, and tourism services. Algae are a natural resource with multifaceted potential, including use in nutrition, beauty, and health, as well as environmentally friendly production, resource recycling, and the creation of local industries. Through our participation in the "Algae Activity® Project," our company will make the value of algae more accessible to consumers and promote lifestyles that connect health and sustainability.

Background of participation
Since our founding, we have scientifically explored the power of naturally occurring ingredients and materials, and have supported people's healthy lives through products such as gastrointestinal medicines, eye drops, topical medications, and skincare products.
In recent years, with the rise of the 100-year lifespan era, interest in "longevity"—living a healthy and fulfilling life both physically and mentally—has been growing. However, social issues surrounding health, such as food security, environmental problems, and the utilization of local resources, have become increasingly complex. Under the slogan "Connect for Well-being & Longevity," our company is pursuing the potential of natural resources, including algae. Through our participation in this "Algae Activity® Project," we aim to go beyond research and development and industrial creation with algae, proposing them as a new option that can be incorporated into daily life. Our goal is to create a society where health and sustainability are naturally connected, and to realize healthy longevity for each individual.
About the Mokatsu® Project
This is an industry collaboration project launched last December, in which 13 companies from various sectors, including ours, work together to leverage the power of algae and create new value in the fields of food and health.
In Japan, algae, including seaweed, have been deeply rooted in the food culture since ancient times, and have been cherished as a familiar health food containing dietary fiber, minerals, and essential amino acids. Furthermore, algae are a natural resource that is attracting attention from an environmental perspective, such as their production efficiency per unit area and their role as blue carbon. In this project, companies from various industries are collaborating to create new value in food and health by utilizing the power of algae.
