Experience "The Future Society of 2050 Where Regenerative medicine is Accessible" at the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion at the Osaka-Kansai Expo – Personalized Cell Therapy Becoming a Common Option.

October 30, 2024

ROHTO Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture, President: Masafumi Sugimoto) will present new future experiential exhibits in two areas: "Regenerative medicine" and "eye care" at the "Osaka Healthcare Pavilion Nest for Reborn" (hereinafter referred to as the "Osaka Healthcare Pavilion"), which will be exhibited by Osaka Prefecture, Osaka City, and the Osaka Pavilion Promotion Committee for the 2025 Japan International Exposition (Osaka-Kansai Expo). This time, we would like to announce the content of the exhibit related to "Regenerative medicine of the Future" as the first installment.

Background and purpose of participation

Our company has established the "ROHTO Group Comprehensive Management Vision 2030: Connect for Well-being," and we are continuing to take on various challenges toward the future of medicine and healthcare with the aim of realizing a well-being society. In this context, we sympathize with the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion's aim of enabling people to discover their potential and take a positive step toward a new self through experiences and hands-on activities, and we are participating in the pavilion. We will exhibit "Regenerative medicine" in the "Future City Zone" and "Eye Care" in the "Future Healthcare Zone" provided by the pavilion.
In our Regenerative medicine business, we are working to develop regenerative medicine with the statement, "Making Regenerative medicine more accessible and easier to use," so that it can become a new treatment option for patients who are suffering because there are no appropriate Regenerative medicine available. We also hope that our experiential exhibit at the Osaka-Kansai Expo will serve as a catalyst for the spread of Regenerative medicine and the development of related industries.

Exhibition Theme: A Future Society in 2050 Where Regenerative medicine is Commonplace

At our exhibition booth, you can experience a simulated urban life where Regenerative medicine is an integral part of daily life through a large screen.
As Japan's world-renowned Regenerative medicine technologies, including iPS cell research, continue to evolve, in the "future society of 2050" where Regenerative medicine is commonplace, technological innovations linked to AI that understands each patient's condition and predicts the future based on PHR (Personal Health Record) will lead to further "personalization" of Regenerative medicine. Experience a future society where Regenerative medicine is widely accepted as one of the options for supporting overall health, from addressing unmet medical needs for diseases for which there are currently no effective treatments.
Furthermore, the key to realizing such a future society lies in the evolution of "cell culture technology." At the exhibition booth, you can see up close the next generation of automated cell culture equipment that will be implemented in the near future.

Next-generation automated culture devices to be implemented in the near future

(Illustrative diagram)

  • Feature 1: Fully automated process from extracting stem cells from tissue to cell culture in a single unit.

We aim to realize a new automated cell culture system that can fully automate the entire process from primary culture to expansion culture using tissue collected from patients and donors, all within a single device. Advances in culture technology and equipment will lead to the provision of high-quality and smooth cell therapy.

  • Feature 2: Miniaturization enables cell culture in a space-saving manner.

The smaller size compared to conventional devices makes it easier to install in more medical institutions, which will help make Regenerative medicine a more accessible option for patients.

Our company will continue to develop Regenerative medicine technologies that offer new treatment options, contributing to the realization of a world of well-being that goes beyond overall health.
