ROHTO Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture; President: Masafumi Sugimoto) has placed the autonomy and growth of each employee at the center of its management and has implemented various initiatives aimed at "co-growth of individuals and the company" in order to continue contributing to the realization of a well-being society. In June 2023, the company announced its "New Work Style Declaration," and as a result of the company-wide efforts to fundamentally reform work styles, overtime work in fiscal year 2024 decreased to 12.3 hours/month, a reduction of 2.6 hours compared to fiscal year 2022.
In order to enable our employees to continue leading well-being lives through their work and private lives and to create even greater value in society, we have formalized our commitment to work styles and health, and will announce it as the "ROHTO Well-being LIFE Declaration" on June 10th, "ROHTO Day," which is designated by our company as our Health Declaration Day. Through the formalization of this declaration, we aim for each employee to maintain physical and mental health as Professional SHIGOTONIN, to enrich their time outside of work and actively fulfill their roles with family and in society, and to contribute to the well-being of those around them who support them, such as family and business partners.

ROHTO Well-being LIFE Declaration

  1. We believe that in order to build an independent career as Professional SHIGOTONIN and live a well-being life, it is important to be healthy both physically and mentally, and to be able to enjoy both your work at Rohto and your personal time.
  2. We believe that physical and mental health is the foundation of a well-being life, and we actively engage in health maintenance and promotion through disease prevention and treatment, physical fitness training, and rest. Furthermore, we do not treat the health of our colleagues and family, who support us, as someone else's problem, and we cooperate in maintaining and improving their health.
  3. We constantly strive to understand the value of our work, working to improve operational efficiency, increase productivity, and implement diverse work styles, thereby creating time to harmonize work and private life and enhance well-being.
  4. The time I create will be actively used for self-realization and self-improvement, such as learning and side jobs to refine and enhance myself; refreshing my mind and body, such as spending time with family, friends, and loved ones, pursuing hobbies, maintaining my health, resting, and leisure; and fulfilling my roles at home and in society, such as childcare, elder care, housework, and social activities.
  5. We will never forget to consider the well-being of those who support us, such as our families and business partners, and we will support our colleagues who actively strive to fulfill their roles at home and in society.

Specific initiatives to promote self-realization, self-improvement, and participation in society.

Risk-Skilling Leave System (June 2025 onwards)

Our company launched a "reskilling leave system" in June 2025. This system allows employees to take a leave of absence for up to two years for purposes of personal growth and skill development, such as studying abroad or obtaining an MBA, and return to work while maintaining their job grade.
While we have previously supported employees in pursuing further learning outside the company through our "retirement system with guaranteed return to work," we aim to contribute even more to society by enabling more employees to create autonomous career paths, achieve self-realization and self-improvement through the use of our reskilling leave system.

support for entrepreneurs within the company program: Asuniwa project Project (April 2020 onwards)

This program, initiated by an employee with actual entrepreneurial experience, supports employees who want to address social issues and start businesses based on their own passion and ideas. Challengers (Tomorrow's Entrepreneurs) can continue their regular work while receiving accounting and legal support from the project secretariat, as well as opportunities such as seminars and meetups. They aim to establish a company and achieve profitability through various review steps. Currently, nine limited liability companies have been established, and four of them have achieved profitability (as of May 2025).
The initial investment costs are determined through an internal crowdfunding system utilizing the company's in-house health currency, "ARUCO," and a distinctive feature is the deeply rooted culture of supporting colleagues who actively strive to fulfill their roles in society.

External Challenge Work (April 2016 - )

This system aims to allow employees to gain valuable experience that would be difficult to obtain within the company through working outside the confines of the company, and to apply that growth to their main job. To date, 182 people (total number of applicants, as of March 2025) have participated in this program.

Plus One Leave System (4+1 consecutive days off) (2005-)

This system allows employees to take four consecutive days of annual paid leave, after which the company grants them an additional day of special leave (plus one day off), for a total of five consecutive business days off (including weekends, this can result in a nine-day consecutive holiday). The current rate of employees taking five or more consecutive days off is 24.7% (FY2024), but the KPI for FY2030 is set at 80%, further supporting self-improvement, mental and physical rejuvenation, and social participation.

June 10th is Health Declaration Day, "Rohto Day"

In order to achieve our major goal of "extending healthy life expectancy without relying on medicine," we established this day in 2017 as "Health Declaration Day" to announce our commitment to health to everyone. We also hope that this day will serve as an opportunity for our customers to re-evaluate their own health and set new goals for the coming year. The date was chosen in honor of our company name, "Rohto (610)."
