In 1899, we founded our pharmaceutical business, currently ROHTO Pharmaceutical
Co., Ltd., aiming to "save patients with gastropathy increased due
to changes in dietary habits," which was a social issue of the time.
Since then, we have been growing, primarily in manufacturing and selling
gastrointestinal medicines, eye drops, and skin care products as our core
enterprise. Amidst a significantly changing external environment and the
broadening of our business fields, we have consistently faced societal
and customer changes and have been continually taking on new challenges.
With conviction that delivering "health" to everyone and leading
people and society to "Well-being" is our raison d'être and the
most important ideal, in 2019, we established the "ROHTO Group Comprehensive
Management Vision 2030 -Connect for Well-being-". For us to keep delivering
"Well-being" to persons, sustainable organizational operation
and continued growth are essential. Building on these, we will leverage
the wisdom of our colleagues, both inside and outside the company, who
are connected through our business activities, to vitalize "Tomorrow's
World".
Intending to realize a "sustainable Well-being society," we have
identified five "Materiality (key issues)" and are advancing
our initiatives. To conserve the global environment, we have been striving
to diminish environmental impact by continuingly employing new technologies
following the concept of the circular economy: for example, taking the
lead in refilling cosmetics with pouches, thereby reducing the use of plastic
and other resources; switching to environmentally friendly raw materials;
minimizing waste and energy consumption; and introducing renewable energy.
Also, prioritizing addressing human rights and employment-related issues,
we initiated the human rights due diligence process at full scale in fiscal
2024. Additionally, to achieve healthy corporate management, with the establishment
of the Sustainability Committee as an advisory body to the Board of Directors
in fiscal 2021, we are now facilitating responsible management with transparency
to reach the "Sustainability Targets 2030."
Being convinced that "humans" are the most essential element
in developing our organization and resolving social issues to lead the
world to a more prosperous society, we have also focused on nurturing personnel.
ROHTO's human resource development means to foster persons capable of taking
on challenges with passion and unconventional thinking to "contribute
to society" consistently. To address a broad range of issues that
beset modern society and to respond to the changing times, we are committed
to develop people of talent who can play an active role both inside and
outside the company so that our ties with the whole society to be strengthened
and ROHTO maintains its presence as a corporation capable of contributing
to the Well-being of every single person and the entire world.
As various sustainability-related issues are interrelated and interact,
it is crucial to tackle them from a synthesizing perspective. It also requires
collaboration with the entire group, rather than just a specific department
or staff members. If we approach these issues as a single company and can
even produce some results, there will be limitations. However, through
combining forces and working together with our stakeholders, we can expect
more significant accomplishments. Only by adopting this approach can the
ROHTO Group's management vision, "Connect for Well-being," be
translated into action and made a reality.
Continuing to fulfill our corporate social responsibilities, the ROHTO
Group will build a foundation for sustainable growth through dialogue with
our stakeholders and information disclosure, and pursue the Well-being
of people around the world, local communities, and the global environment.
