History

On February 22, 1899 (Meiji 32), founder Yasutami Yamada established "Shintendo Yamada Yasutami Pharmacy" with capital of 3,000 yen and launched the gastrointestinal medicine "Ikatsu." This was the beginning of ROHTO Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.

We obtained exclusive trademark rights from The Mentholatum Company, Inc. (USA). This allowed us to expand into the skin care field, making the Mentholatum brand our third pillar of business, and also gave us a foothold as a global company.

Since 2000, skin care brands such as Obagi and Hada Labo have been released one after another, and Rohto Pharmaceutical has expanded its business area into health and beauty care.
