Overview
Established by Rohto Pharmaceutical in 2011, this award is presented to two young ophthalmology researchers who are conducting outstanding research, with the aim of supporting and promoting ophthalmology research in Japan by international students and improving and developing ophthalmology research worldwide. The recipients are selected through a rigorous and fair selection process by a selection committee consisting of seven renowned ophthalmologists.
The award is named after the late Dr. Yasuo Tano, who contributed greatly to the development of the ROHTO AWARD, which is given to outstanding ophthalmological researchers in Japan.

Eligibility
Applicants must be approved to study abroad by a Japanese university or equivalent research institution, hold a medical license in their home country, and have worked as an ophthalmologist for at least three years. The period of study in Japan must be at least one month, and applicants must be under 40 years of age.

Award
Two people will be awarded the Tano Memorial Award and a prize of 500,000 yen each.
