Mindset and System

At Rohto Pharmaceutical, we consider the well-being of individuals to be the source of our growth, and we aim for "working at Rohto Pharmaceutical to improve one's health." Based on this philosophy, we established the "Health and Productivity Management Declaration" in 2018, and further established the "ROHTO Well-being LIFE Declaration" in 2025 to realize a work style that supports the fulfillment of each employee's work and personal life, as well as the maintenance and promotion of their health.

At our company, "health" is not simply the absence of illness. We believe that true health is the ability to approach daily work with passion (purpose in work and life) based on physical and mental well-being, and we consider employees who achieve this state to be "autonomous health-conscious human resources."

Our goal is to spread the value of health to families, communities, and future generations through "autonomous health-conscious human resources" who discipline themselves and manage their own health while growing professionally.

Cultivating self-reliant health professionals

Rohto Pharmaceutical Health and Productivity Management Declaration

Our aim is to become a company fully staffed by “healthy human resources” who will always be able to healthily thrive in their daily work.
We hereby declare that we will strive to further promote health and productivity management so that our healthy employees will lead to a healthy society, and on to a healthy next generation.

ROHTO Well-being LIFE Declaration

  1. We believe that in order to build an independent career as Professional SHIGOTONIN and live a well-being life, it is important to be healthy both physically and mentally, and to be able to enjoy both your work at Rohto and your personal time.
  2. We believe that physical and mental health is the foundation of a well-being life, and we actively work to maintain and improve our health through disease prevention and treatment, physical fitness, rest, etc. We also do not regard the health of our coworkers and their families, who support us, as something that concerns us, but cooperate in maintaining and improving their health.
  3. We will always be mindful of the value of our work, working to improve operational efficiency, productivity, and diverse working styles, striving to harmonize work and private life and create time to improve our well-being.
  4. The time created will be actively used for self-realization and training, such as studying to improve oneself or working multiple jobs; for mental and physical refreshment, such as spending time with family, friends, and loved ones, hobbies, health promotion, rest, and leisure; and for fulfilling one's role at home and in society, such as childcare, nursing care, housework, and social activities.
  5. We will never forget to consider the well-being of those who support us, such as our families and business partners, and we will support our colleagues who actively strive to fulfill their roles at home and in society.

health and productivity management Strategy Map (Japanese only)

We are creating a health and productivity management strategy map as a foundation for systematically and continuously promoting health and productivity management.
We identify health issues that can lead to solutions for business challenges and connect them to initiatives related to maintaining and improving health.

System: health and productivity management promotion and Occupational safety and health

Under the responsibility of President and Representative Director, Health Management Promotion Group takes the lead in promoting health and productivity management initiatives.
With advice from the CHRO (Chief Human Resources Officer), we are working to maintain and improve the health of our employees in cooperation with the Human Resources and General Affairs Department, the General Affairs Groups and project managers at each branch, the labor union, ROHTO GROUP Health Insurance Society, the Occupational Safety and Health Promotion Office, Occupational Safety and Health Committee, and External Consultation Service (Experts).

*Chief Human Resources Officer: Executive in charge of talent development, organizational development, and well-being management.

Health and productivity management Actions

We conduct comprehensive health checkups, dental checkups, and influenza vaccinations every year, and we also have initiatives in place to encourage employees to make health promotion a regular habit. Furthermore, starting in fiscal year 2022, in addition to the Human Resources and Health Management Office, we have established an employee-only consultation service operated by an external organization, where employees can consult with qualified medical professionals (nurses, midwives, and public health nurses) about concerns such as pregnancy, childbirth, childcare, elder care, balancing work and illness, and mental health.

Initiatives toward 2030

Towards 2030, we have set forth 12 health indicators that contribute to improving physical wellness, such as reducing metabolic syndrome and improving exercise habits, which are risk factors for lifestyle-related diseases, as well as indicators that contribute to improving mindset, which supports a vibrant state of mind from within.
Based on these indicators, we are promoting health and productivity management that aims to improve well-being based on physical and mental health.

Expanded to the entire group of companies.

To extend health and productivity management initiatives to our group companies and employees' families, we established the "ROHTO GROUP Health Insurance Society," which launched in April 2022.
Given the rising average age of our employees, we believe that regular health checkups are an important initiative that leads to the early detection and prevention of diseases. Therefore, we offer comprehensive health checkups. While "specific health checkups" are generally targeted at those aged 40 and over, we have been conducting them from age 30 for some time, and now the same criteria are applied throughout the entire group.
Previously, the criteria for health checkups differed from one business location to another within the group, making it difficult to understand employees' health status. However, by visualizing health checkup data across the entire group, we have been able to implement more appropriate measures.
Furthermore, based on health checkup results and medical claims data, we are developing various insurance programs that contribute to improving health issues.
Going forward, we will continue to regularly share health-related issues and measures, and work together as a group to promote "collaborative health initiatives," where employers and health insurance associations work together on health initiatives, in order to maintain and improve the health of our employees.

Promoting well-being in collaboration with our business partners.

Our company extends its well-being management philosophy, based on employee health, to the entire supply chain, aiming to build a sustainable business foundation through collaboration with our business partners. Furthermore, we conduct supplier CSR surveys and other initiatives to understand and promote improvements in workplace safety and health practices among our business partners.

Monitoring of sustainable procurement by suppliers

To achieve sustainable procurement, our company is conducting supplier CSR surveys and other activities to understand and promote improvements in efforts related to occupational safety, health, the environment, and compliance.
In addition to our efforts regarding safety, quality, and compliance, we are promoting increased awareness of health and safety and risk reduction through dialogue and collaboration with our partners.

Expanding Learning: "Women's Health Lab"

To support the health of women and the next generation, we have been holding a research group since 2018 that transcends the roles of business partners and manufacturers, fostering collaboration through learning, thinking, and action to create the future.
As partners in addressing social issues, 42 people from 22 companies (including our company) participated in the 7th term in 2025. Recognizing the role of drugstores in supporting local health, we are learning about the latest healthcare and medical information, social trends, and practical examples of problem-solving, and then giving back that knowledge to our stores and communities, expanding the circle of health action.

Efforts to reduce the burden on drivers to support sustainable logistics

Addressing the driver shortage and building sustainable supply chains requires improving the well-being of everyone involved in logistics.
Our company works in cooperation with our business partners to improve the health and working conditions of our drivers. Since November 2023, we have discontinued same-day shipping and transitioned to a system where shipping details are finalized by the day before. This has eliminated waiting times and reduced departure times by approximately three hours, thereby reducing the burden on our drivers.

Impact on society (domestic and international)

Our group is committed to addressing health challenges in local communities and globally through our business activities and social contributions.
Domestically, we contribute to the formation of sustainable communities by raising health awareness through educational and community service activities. Overseas, we promote health support activities tailored to the characteristics of each country and region, aiming to improve well-being in local communities.

Responding to global health challenges

In addition to addressing globally common health challenges such as the prevention of lifestyle-related diseases and the improvement of mental health, our group is also promoting initiatives to solve eye health issues.
In particular, in the field of eye care, we are leveraging our long-cultivated knowledge and technology to address eye health issues around the world. We provide free eye examinations, medical technology training, and ophthalmic medical equipment, primarily in developing countries, contributing to improved access to healthcare and prevention of vision loss.
Furthermore, in order to coordinate and strengthen the community-based social activities related to eye care that had been carried out in each country, the group redefined these activities as a global initiative in 2022 and is promoting group-wide activities. Starting with the serious global health issues of children's eye health and myopia, the initiative expanded mainly in Asia, including Japan, and has now broadened its scope to include other eye health issues such as cataracts and dry eye, and has expanded its activity area.
Furthermore, we conduct educational and awareness-raising activities regarding eye health, including myopia in children. Through eye care education and screenings in schools and communities, we promote early prevention and improve health awareness.
These initiatives are social value creation activities closely related to our group's business areas, and will contribute to realizing the "Joy of Seeing" for people across countries and regions, as well as correcting health disparities.
