This fund, funded by grants from Rohto Pharmaceutical, aims to "support and promote basic research that is expected to make a significant contribution to the development of dermatology," and provides research funding for innovative and exploratory research that is expected to make a significant contribution to the future development of dermatology.The "Rohto Dermatological Research Fund" was established by Rohto Pharmaceutical in 2008, and in 2017, Rohto Pharmaceutical and the Japanese Dermatological Association (hereinafter referred to as Japanese Dermatological Association) began jointly operating it as the "Dermatological Research Fund (Endowment by Rohto Pharmaceutical)" with the aim of further contributing to the development and improvement of dermatology, and it continues to operate to the present day.

Selection Process

After selection by Japanese Dermatological Association 's Awards Selection Committee, the recipients will be decided by the Board of Directors.

Application conditions

1. Be a dermatologist (excluding professors).
2. The research content must be related to dermatology and must be novel and pioneering basic research (the topic may also be one that is being applied for research funding from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology).
3. Research must be conducted solely within Japan and must be conducted solely for personal use. However, collaboration with other researchers within the same institution is permitted.
4. The research period is two years. Those who plan to study abroad within two years of receiving the research grant are not eligible to apply.
5. Have never received the Rohto Dermatological Research Fund (hosted by Rohto Pharmaceuticals) or this research fund in the past.

How to Apply

Recipients are selected through a public call for applications, and details on how to apply as recipient candidates are published in the Journal Japanese Dermatological Association and on Japanese Dermatological Association website (http://www.dermatol.or.jp/) from late October each year.
