Our Approach to Environmental Conservation

It is our responsibility to protect the global environment and pass it on to the next generation. The Rohto Group has established its Basic Environmental Policy and is working to prevent pollution of local and global environments and to continuously improve them through its business activities. In particular, we understand that reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to prevent global warming is an issue facing society as a whole, and are therefore undertaking a variety of initiatives to conserve energy in offices and factories, and to reduce the environmental impact of travel and transportation. In order to achieve these reduction targets, we established the Company-Basic Guidelines for Company-wide Energy Management in 2011 and are promoting them company-wide.

Furthermore, we signed the United Nations Global Compact in March 2018 and were registered as a participating company. We will respond more seriously than ever to the three principles for environmental issues - "a preventative approach to environmental issues," "initiatives for environmental responsibility," and "development and dissemination of environmentally friendly technologies" - and aim to achieve sustainable social development while collaborating with domestic and overseas suppliers.

ROHTO Group Environment Basic Policy

The Rohto Group's purpose is to "deliver health to people around the world through products and services, leading all people and society around us to well-being and invigorating the world of tomorrow." Based on this purpose, the Group will promote environmentally friendly business activities and work to realize a sustainable society.

Compliance with laws, ordinances, and regional cooperative agreements

We will take initiatives to conserve the environment, abiding by environment-related laws, ordinances, regulations, regional agreements, and other guidelines.
Response to climate change

Acknowledging the impact of our business activities on climate change as a material issue, we will advance the efficient use of energy while cutting down the usage amount, and strive to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in cooperation with our stakeholders, thereby realizing a decarbonized society.
Promotion of resource circulation

To effectively utilize limited resources, we will advance reducing the usage of water, raw materials, and other resources, cutting down waste discharge, and recycling them through efficient use, thereby contributing to establishing a resource-circulation society.
Co-existence with nature

We will prevent water pollution, soil contamination, and air pollution from occurring by advancing the proper management of chemical substances that affect the environment, reducing the usage of those substances by replacing them with alternative materials, and managing and processing wastewater appropriately. By taking these initiatives, we will strive to conserve biodiversity through our business activities while considering the effects on the ecosystem.
Development of environment-friendly products

We will strive to develop and provide products that reduce the environmental burden at each process, from design, formulation, manufacturing, transportation, distribution, and use to disposal.
Environment management system

We will assess environmental impacts brought about by our business activities (such as providing products and services), set specific targets for reducing load on the Earth, and establish an environmental management system (EMS). By taking these initiatives, we will strive to prevent environmental pollution and constantly improve EMS.
Raising of environmental awareness and communication

Basic Guidelines for Company-wide Energy Management

ROHTO will set a goal to reduce the “energy consumption intensity” or “intensity to be evaluated for electricity demand optimization” by at least one (1) percent per year as an average rate from a medium-to-long-term perspective.
ROHTO will facilitate the conversion into non-fossil energy and the utilization of renewable energy.
ROHTO will facilitate the operation of eco-conscious facilities to save energy, extend the lifespan of equipment, and co-existence with the global environment.
Each employee will tackle energy issues (as above) in everyday tasks with support from their managers or supervisors and technical backup from the relevant units or departments.
In addition to the individual effort above (3), ROHTO will maintain and enhance the energy-saving measures in a planned and continuous manner, for example, by replacing out-of-date facilities, introducing updated technology, and examining the operation control system (for efficient operation of facilities and equipment).
ROHTO strives to reduce energy, abiding by laws and regulations on energy and respecting various requirements from relevant economic and industry organizations.
ROHTO will not ask for our employees’ patience but to avoid waste.

Legal compliance

At Rohto Pharmaceutical, there were zero violations of environmental laws and regulations and zero fines in fiscal 2024.
Furthermore, there have been no environmental accidents or lawsuits that have had a significant impact on the surrounding environment.
Our factories and research laboratories are considered to be at high risk for the environment. We are working to prevent environmental pollution due to disasters and accidents, prepare for and respond to emergencies, and maintain and preserve related facilities.
