Participation in External Initiatives

The United Nations Global Compact

The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is a global framework for companies and organizations to act as good members of society and achieve sustainable growth by demonstrating responsible and creative leadership. It is a voluntary initiative to participate. Our company is a signatory to this United Nations Global Compact and was registered in March 2018.
Since our founding in 1899, we have contributed to society through our business activities based on our basic philosophy, and have proactively worked on corporate ethics, the environment, and social contribution from early on. As a member of the global community, we support and practice the 10 principles of the UNGC in the four fields of "human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption" advocated by the United Nations, thereby promoting initiatives for the sustainable society.

The Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact

  • Human Rights
    • Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and
    • Principle 2: make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.
  • Labour
    • Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;
    • Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour;
    • Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labour; and
    • Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.
  • Environment
    • Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
    • Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and
    • Principle 9: encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.
  • Anti-Corruption
    • Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.

Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures(TCFD)

This is a task force established by the Financial Stability Board (FSB) to review climate-related disclosures and the response of financial institutions to climate change at the request of G20.
TCFD recommends that companies disclose "governance," "strategy," "risk management," and "indicators and targets" related to climate-change-related risks and opportunities.
We express our support for TCFD's recommendations in June 2021.

Japan Clean Ocean Material Alliance(CLOMA)
